Sitting at home on a Sunday afternoon, now that's rare. I'm usually working, or on the few occassions when I'm not working on Sunday, I'll be out having fun, but these few days have been draining, and yesterday was just so tiring, combined with waking up early for church today, I'm just about to collapse at this keyboard. However, I'm waiting for the aspirin mask to work, so within this 20 minutes, I shall type up a quick blog entry.

I can't believe I only posted 4 times this month, as opposed to... what, 9?? in January. Getting lazy... and uni hasn't even started yet. There's still such a lot to do before it does, and I only have two days left before having to wake up at 5:40 to catch the 6am bus every Tuesday and Wednesday. =(

And onto food without further ado~ I shall procrastinate before practicing piano, haha.

From Week 8, 2010

(At this point, I went to sleep for 3 hours, just woke up, haha, there's procrastination for you). The photo shows a rabbit meat course at...

From Week 8, 2010
... Carpaccio, Leichhardt. We originally wanted to visit a French bakery, but it closed at 4, so we just missed it. It was a toss up between going to Braza or trying a random Italian restaurant. I think we should have gone to Braza afterall, it would have cost the same anyway.

From Week 8, 2010
The rabbit meat wrapped in proscuitto was flavored with a lot of herbs and onions, which was really not my thing. I prefer to actually taste the meat rather than have it overpowered by all these other interfering herbs, but then my brother did say they prepared it the way games are prepared, so the herbs are used to counter the gaminess of it. Not my thing though.

From Week 8, 2010
This was nice. It's an entree sized duck meat ravioli. There's something about ravioli and how they mince everything inside till you can't really tell what is that I don't particularly dig, but it's still a nice dish. Would prefer duck pieces by itself because that's the only way you can really enjoy duck =D

From Week 8, 2010
They should be famous for their pizza, but (I risk sounding like a spoilt kid who had too much good food and holds commoner's food in disdain, but bear with me) I've had quite a few pizzas that are way nicer, namely Seirin Kan in Japan (though I heard Savoy, another pizzaeria in Japan, is better... must try it the next time we go!), so this wasn't really anything special.

From Week 8, 2010
Upon arriving, we were asked whether we'd like some water. My brother replied in the affirmative, and she next asked "Still or sparkling?". That's when the alarms go off that indeed, you have to pay for the water. There were 3 of us, and we shared this chilled bottle of 750mL of water, imported from Italy and bottled at the Italian Alps. Price? Steep. For an average plastic bottle of water, 600mL, you can get it (cheapest at some stalls) for $1. This? This Italian water costs $7.50 for 750mL, which means for each mouthful of water, you're drinking down about 30-50 cents. Plus, 750mL was not nearly enough to share between 3 people for a meal =_= Well, at least they can't cheat other people off again by refilling that glass bottle with filtered water made in Sydney taps because I sneaked the bottle home. It's a really nice glass bottle (and we paid for it, hmph) but my mum's been packing the house and it's gone missing now =(

/rant. Overall rating? Each dish was about $20+, even the entree sizes. If you wanted to order larger dishes, you have to pay an extra $9 to make it a main sized dish, so obviously the price wasn't too nice, the dishes weren't too nice, definitely not a place I'd revisit. One thing that was quite nicely done was the orange and rabbit pâté though, which was interesting, and the herbs were subtle so that was good. Wouldn't go there for pizza though, that was very average.

From Week 8, 2010
Tt's parents went to America and gave us this- See's Famous Old Time Candies. For some reason, I still like using the word "candy" as opposed to "lollies". Used to get teased about it by my friends because it's so "American" to use "candies". It's like saying "crisps" instead of "chips". I must defend myself though- I don't use the word "candy" because of Charlie and his Candy mountain, it's just that Singaporeans use "candy", never "lollies", so it stuck.

From Week 8, 2010
Opened the box of candies and this is what you see- little cups filled with sweet, artery-clogging little brown blocks. They are very sweet but nice. I ate a few nut ones before my mum devoured the rest (I'm sure my dad helped too). She left all the fudge-filled milk chocolates at the end! =(

Yay, I just finished Week 8 (of this year... it's currently Week 10). Moving on to a new week, last Sunday I didn't have a shift at work either, which was a real surprise, but good in a way because I really needed a break from going to work every Sunday. These two weeks are exceptions though- I have my usual shift back next week =( After not working two Sundays in a row, I'm tempted to change my availability to "N/A on Sundays".

From Week 9, 2010
It was really early when church ended. It starts at around 8:45 and finishes at about 10:15am, so my brother and I walked to Strathfield station. Nearby is a Hello! Happy cafe. I visited it with my brother and sister at their Chatswood Branch last time, but never tried their Strathfield brunch. This Korean-owned cafe has a homely feel with its yellow lights (I really like yellow lights... when my dad decided to change my room lights to white light before, I rebelled and changed it back to yellow myself.) Even though it appears darker, it's just so much warmer than the glaring white lights. They only use white lights in prisons and cells.

That was my brother's chocolate tart. Should be eaten with caution because the powder is a choking hazard.

From Week 9, 2010
My strawberry mousse. I enjoyed the cakes from the Chatswood branch more... maybe because I ordered a nicer cake there. Strawberry mousse is very common, should have chosen something a little more special I guess, but still good!

From Week 9, 2010
Some cute albeit random pictures hanging on the wall of the cafe.

From Week 9, 2010
Warm cosy interior.

From Week 9, 2010
Lactose intolerant? Not I, though if you gave me curry or spicy Thai, something unfortunate might happen afterwards. I can drink milk, coffee, milkshakes, etc, but give me Thai curry and my eyes will puff up for some reason =(

From Week 9, 2010
I then met up with tt and it's just so rare to go out on a Sunday, or weekend in general, everything felt strange. It's like... why are there so many people around?? because going out on a weekday, there are obviously fewer people. They all come out during the weekends, so that took some getting used to. We decided to revisit Poporo at Market City top level. Haven't been there in a long while, and they've changed everything. They've ruined it! They took away the self-ordering service where you press on the screen and order your own stuff. Instead, they've gone backwards and have a waitress to take your order, how boring. Their food changed too, so instead of the omurice and hamburg sets, they have mediocre and commonly found Japanese food.

From Week 9, 2010
Not happy. Their spicy katsudon is more like ketchup... and doesn't look that nice either =( bring back the old Poporo!!!

This entry is putting me in a bad mood because of all the bad-mediocre restaurant memories. I shall leave things here and maybe come back later to do another entry with better food. Going to post a funny picture sneakily taken at a clothes shop we went past quite a while ago.

From Week 7, 2010
I was tempted to get it cos it was actually not too expensive and it's so funny (I think it was $15, but comes with a inner shirt along with the other jacket that has the above text printed on it) but was warned not to get it... or else. =P

When you ask for water and they respond with "Still or sparkling" it's right to have alarm bells go off. You just have to reply with "Tap" so they'll grab tap water. Waiters delibrately do that to force you to say tapwater to make you sound cheap which some customers are relunctant to do when there are guests around.

"if you gave me curry or spicy Thai, something unfortunate might happen afterwards."
too much info D:

I was wondering where the third option: tap water went... it's ok to sound cheap sometimes, it'll save $7.50 on water afterall!!

As for having curry or spicy thai, I really just get an allergic reaction, ie puffy eyes and itchy skin. To what I'm allergic to, I have no idea. Must be some spice that they put inside =P what were YOU thinking?

Yeah, if they don't give the tap water option just ask for tap water anyway. I think they're required to provide water for free on request at any eating establishment (even McD).

As for what I was thinking... might not be appropriate for this family friendly blog D:
